Audrey Niffenenger, Levitation, from the book The Three Incestuous Sister
I found this artist adorably hilarious and I really enjoy her lecture. She is an artist and a writer, well known for the book The Time Traveler's wife, from which she made a movie. Her practice include both painting and print, but what I found particularly interesting is her print-book called The three incestuos sister, published by Harry N. Abrams (that I am going to buy as part of my books collection). Niffenegger’s second novel Her Fearful Symmetry was published in 2009 by Scribner and Jonathan Cape. In 2008 she made a series of graphic novel for the London Guardian called The Night Bookmobile. She is now working on her third novel, The Chinchilla Girl in Exile.
Nieffineger began making prints in 1978 and then she trained as a visual artist at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago from which she gained an MFA in Art Theory and Practice. In 1994 she took part in a group of book artists and papermakers, they found a book arts center called the Columbia College Chicago Center for Book and Paper Arts. Niffenegger is also a founderr of the writing collective Text 3 called T3.
What I like about about Nieffinegger's work:
The fact that she draws for her stories from her dream, since she explained she has some problem with the sleeping, in the sense that she is always having strange dreams and, as soon as she weak up she draws what she dreamt.
The sense of grotesque in her tales
The fact that I found out that she is also a guide in the cemeteries
The fact that she is drawing and painting on everything and everywhere, she doesn't loose a moment to draw...fantastic!
The fact that she is working in different fields: writing, drawing, painting, print-making
